Look Outside is out now on PS5 and Switch 2, bringing Devolver's disturbing horror RPG to consoles

Sometimes, the best way to survive is to avoid looking through the window. Look Outside launched on October 30, 2026, for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Developed by Francis Coulombe and published by Devolver Digital, the horror RPG traps players inside an apartment building where looking outdoors can transform the residents into monsters.

Just before Halloween, Devolver Digital is offering console players a particularly unpleasant way to meet their neighbors.

Look Outside, the survival horror RPG created by Francis Coulombe, is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The console launch took place on October 30, 2026, following the game's original PC release in March 2025.

Devolver Digital has confirmed a US price of $9.99, with local pricing determined by individual storefronts.

Behind its deliberately retro pixel art, Look Outside presents an unusual horror adventure contained entirely within a single apartment building.

One glance outside can change everything

The premise is straightforward and deeply unsettling.

A mysterious event has transformed the world outside. Anyone who looks through a window risks becoming a grotesque creature.

The outside world has become something people must avoid seeing.

Players control Sam, a resident trying to survive while gradually uncovering the nature of the phenomenon.

Leaving the relative safety of his apartment means searching hallways, entering other rooms and meeting the building's remaining occupants.

Some are still recognizable as human.

Others have undergone physical transformations that make them almost impossible to describe.

Much of the horror comes from the contrast between familiar domestic surroundings and the creatures inhabiting them.

Bathrooms, kitchens and stairwells become places where opening another door could produce an unexpected encounter.

The game does not need an enormous open world to maintain that tension.

The apartment complex itself provides the setting, with its residents, inaccessible areas and hidden mysteries.

Turn-based combat with a survival horror edge

Look Outside is not a conventional action game.

Combat uses a turn-based system in which the distance between characters influences available options.

Players can use improvised weapons, objects recovered during exploration and different abilities.

The structure recalls traditional RPG combat while incorporating the vulnerability associated with survival horror.

Simply possessing a weapon does not guarantee safety.

Players must preserve resources, anticipate encounters and decide whether a fight is worth the supplies it could consume.

Devolver Digital advertises more than 150 individually designed creatures.

The unusual monster designs are central to the game's visual identity.

Some resemble human bodies transformed into disturbing shapes, with exposed tissue and unnatural features.

The horror is frequently graphic.

Blood, bodily transformation and unsettling imagery are important elements of the game's presentation.

Even players who enjoy retro pixel-art games may find the material uncomfortable.

Sam's apartment is more than a safe room

Between expeditions, Sam returns to his apartment.

The location is not simply a save point or narrative backdrop.

Players can prepare food, craft tools, recover from difficult encounters and plan future journeys through the building.

Ordinary activities, including playing games, provide an unusual contrast to the horrific situation outside the apartment.

Resources recovered during exploration are essential.

Food, weapons, supplies and other items help determine how long Sam can continue searching the building.

However, his apartment is not completely isolated from the events unfolding elsewhere.

The people Sam meets can influence the way he approaches survival.

Some residents may become allies.

Certain characters can be recruited and offered shelter.

These interactions add a personal dimension to the experience beyond fighting monsters and collecting equipment.

A compact adventure with multiple outcomes

Devolver Digital describes Look Outside as a game offering approximately 10 to 12 hours of playtime.

That estimate is not a fixed completion time and will vary according to individual playstyles.

The game also features roughly a dozen boss encounters, a varied cast of characters and several possible endings.

Player decisions, relationships and discoveries can influence the journey.

Progression is therefore about more than reaching the final room of the building.

Curiosity and the consequences of different encounters help shape the experience.

The concentrated setting avoids scattering the adventure across numerous unrelated locations.

Instead, the building becomes more complex as players discover its inhabitants and secrets.

Already well received on PC

Look Outside is not arriving on consoles as a completely unknown game.

Since its March 21, 2025 PC release, it has attracted considerable attention from independent horror and RPG audiences.

Its English-language Steam user reviews are categorized as Overwhelmingly Positive.

Critics have also praised its unsettling atmosphere, unusual art direction and combination of traditional RPG mechanics with survival horror.

However, that reception primarily reflects the previously available PC experience.

It does not independently establish the technical performance or quality of the new console adaptations.

Devolver Digital's launch announcement does not provide detailed comparisons of frame rates or image quality across PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

Players particularly concerned about technical performance should therefore consult platform-specific reviews.

Four console versions, with no Xbox announcement

The October 30 launch covers two generations of PlayStation hardware and two generations of Nintendo Switch.

Devolver Digital confirms availability on PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

Xbox is not included in the announcement.

That does not establish that an Xbox adaptation will never happen, but no such release can currently be confirmed from the available official information.

The publisher has also not confirmed a physical edition in its launch statement.

The console releases bring the established horror adventure to additional hardware.

No console-exclusive story chapter is announced.

Any detailed differences between these editions and the PC release would require additional technical documentation.

A well-timed Halloween release

Devolver Digital's launch timing is particularly appropriate.

Releasing Look Outside on October 30 makes the game available immediately before Halloween, when horror experiences receive additional attention.

Yet Francis Coulombe's game does not depend solely on sudden scares.

Its tension also comes from conversations, vulnerability, unsettling sounds and encounters that gradually transform an ordinary apartment building into an incomprehensible place.

Players looking for an unconventional turn-based horror RPG can now discover it without needing a PC.

Look Outside is available on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 as of October 30, 2026, with a confirmed US price of $9.99.

The game's most important survival advice remains remarkably simple: do not look outside.
