Steam Beta fixes non-Steam games refusing to launch on Linux

Adding an external game or application to Steam is not terribly useful when the Play button stops launching it. That is the regression Valve has now fixed in the Steam Client Beta on Linux, following a troublesome few days for users relying on non-Steam shortcuts.

DLSS 5 gives studios control over the AI, but the frame-rate bill is still steep

NVIDIA has detailed the creative controls behind DLSS 5 for game developers. Its 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is an additional stage that adjusts lighting and materials after the engine has rendered the scene. NBA 2K27 can look noticeably richer in character close-ups, but independent measurements make clear that the visual uplift is not free.

FC Mobile 27 is doing more than updating squads: Game Plans and Gauntlet put actual decisions back into matches

EA SPORTS FC Mobile moves into its 27 season on September 24. Beyond updated squads and the game's third-anniversary celebration, Electronic Arts is introducing two systems with a much clearer effect on how matches are played: Game Plans lets teams change shape and mentality during a match, while Gauntlet makes squad depth matter by limiting how often individual player items can be used.

Steam Machine: bad console or great living-room PC? The answer changes with the question

The Steam Machine keeps inviting the wrong comparison. It sits under a television, boots into a controller interface and looks every bit like a game console. Then Valve gives you a Linux desktop, replaceable storage, standard PC peripherals and the freedom to install another operating system. As a console, its price and graphics performance are awkward. As a purpose-built couch PC, it is a stranger and more convincing device.

Gaming Is Growing Again, but Studios Are Still Paying for the Boom

The global games business is forecast to approach $214 billion in 2026. That sounds like the end of the crisis. Inside studios, it does not feel much like one: teams are still being cut, giant projects remain increasingly difficult to finance, and player attention has become one of the industry's most expensive resources.

Roblox games are about to leave Roblox and become standalone apps

For most of its history, a Roblox game lived inside Roblox. Roblox Everywhere is starting to break that rule. Creators will soon be able to release standalone versions of their games across mobile, PC and consoles without giving up the engine, multiplayer services or existing Roblox community.

Palworld is coming to phones twice, and the two mobile games are easy to mix up

There is now an annoying trap hidden inside a very simple search. A licensed Palworld game really did open mobile pre-registration in South Korea this week. It just isn't Palworld Mobile. Pocketpair currently has two separate mobile adaptations in development, built by two different companies for noticeably different kinds of play.

Samsung added another 60Hz to a monitor that was already operating beyond one kilohertz. Odyssey G6 G60H has moved from the 1040Hz specification shown at CES to a finalized 1100Hz mode. The difficult part is no longer refreshing the LCD that quickly. It is giving the display a genuinely new game frame every 0.91 milliseconds.
