Hogwarts Legacy gets DLSS 5 on November 5, bringing AI-enhanced lighting to the Wizarding World
Hogwarts Legacy is receiving a substantial visual update on November 5, 2026. NVIDIA's DLSS 5 technology will introduce 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, enhancing materials, lighting and environmental details on supported GeForce RTX 50 Series hardware, RTX Spark devices and GeForce NOW Ultimate.
Hogwarts Legacy launched back in 2023, but NVIDIA is giving its PC version another visual makeover. The November 5 update adds DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, marking a new stage in the company's efforts to use AI for more than upscaling and frame generation.
The approach starts with the image produced by the game engine. Neural rendering then adds lighting and material detail, guided by the original scene rather than replacing its geometry. NVIDIA's examples focus on improvements to architectural surfaces, shadows, reflections and character materials.
It is a notably different proposition from making an existing image sharper. The goal is to introduce visual information that the original rendering process could not practically produce within its performance budget.
Hogsmeade becomes a showcase for neural rendering
NVIDIA's latest demonstrations highlight Hogsmeade, where weathered rooftops and stone buildings reveal additional surface detail. Flower boxes receive more localized shadows, while recessed entrances gain a stronger sense of depth.
Avalanche Software has worked with NVIDIA to tune the system rather than applying the same visual treatment indiscriminately. The developers can adjust how different objects and characters respond to the AI model, an important distinction in a game built around a deliberately stylized magical world.
The technology also includes controls for tone, structural detail and masking. Developers can limit changes to specific scene elements, reducing the risk of unwanted alterations to recognizable characters.

Players retain a choice
The new Neural Rendering setting can be enabled or disabled in Hogwarts Legacy's graphics options. Players who prefer the original appearance will therefore have a direct way to avoid the additional rendering treatment.
Availability is limited to NVIDIA's supported hardware and services, including GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark systems and GeForce NOW Ultimate. NVIDIA also plans to update the game's other supported DLSS technologies alongside the new feature.
The company says its latest neural rendering model is twice as fast as the preceding version. That is a model-level improvement, however, not a promise that every game or graphics card will deliver twice the frame rate.
More games are joining the rollout
War Thunder is scheduled to receive DLSS 5 in mid-November through its Eagle's Shadow update. Gaijin Entertainment plans to use the technology to enrich lighting, material detail and atmospheric effects across its combat environments.
Where Winds Meet follows on November 23. Everstone Studio and NetEase Games have tuned the new rendering options for the game's expansive Wuxia setting.
For Hogwarts Legacy owners with compatible hardware, the immediate dates are November 4 for NVIDIA's announced Game Ready Driver and November 5 for the game update itself.
