SAROS Gets a Massive Free Zenith Update With Boss Rush, New Game+ and 20 New Modifiers
Carcosa is not finished testing Arjun Devraj. On October 19, 2026, Housemarque released Zenith, a substantial free update for SAROS on PlayStation 5. It targets two very different audiences: experienced players looking for more difficult challenges and newcomers who find the game's projectile-heavy combat intimidating. With a boss rush, an evolving New Game+ and twenty additional modifiers, the update gives both groups new reasons to explore.
Housemarque Expands SAROS for Free
Almost six months after launch, SAROS is receiving a major expansion to its gameplay systems.
The developer behind Returnal has added two modes, new challenges and several options designed to make the experience more approachable.
Zenith is available to all SAROS owners on PlayStation 5 at no additional cost. The update is version 02.000.000.
Housemarque identifies two goals: encourage veterans to return to Carcosa and help players who struggle with the game's speed and demanding combat.
Rather than replacing its established design philosophy, the studio is expanding the ways people can engage with it.
Overlord Rush Pits Players Against Eight Bosses
The first headline addition is Overlord Rush.
Accessible through the Primary Unit in the Passage hub, the new mode turns boss encounters into timed challenges.
Players enter a training simulation and attempt to defeat powerful Overlords as quickly as possible.
Three sets are available.
Incursion and Ascension each feature three bosses. Housemarque estimates that a successful attempt can take around ten minutes.
Totality is the ultimate challenge, featuring all eight Overlords in one continuous sequence.
The mode does not introduce new story bosses. Instead, it reorganizes existing encounters into a competitive format designed to test mechanical mastery.

Online leaderboards allow players to compare their performance with friends and other participants.
Results can be filtered by primary weapon, creating separate comparisons for different equipment choices.
Online leaderboard features require an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
Overlord Rush is not a newly announced cooperative multiplayer mode.
Eclipse Layers Introduces an Evolving New Game+
The second major addition is intended for players who have finished the main campaign.
Eclipse Layers is a New Game+ mode that modifies the rules rather than simply adding more enemy health.
Once the story has been completed, new nodes become available in the Armor Matrix at Passage.
Those nodes unlock increasingly demanding Eclipse Layers.
Before starting a run, players must select enough Trial Modifiers to meet a minimum difficulty threshold.
The threshold rises as progression continues, but the choice of individual challenges remains flexible.
With 25 Trial Modifiers available in total, players can construct different combinations and discover how their effects interact.

That gives upgraded equipment and accumulated experience another purpose after the main campaign is complete.
Ten Protections and Ten New Trials
Zenith adds twenty Carcosan Modifiers, evenly divided between Protection and Trial categories.
Protection Modifiers help players manage the dangers of Carcosa, while Trial Modifiers introduce additional challenges.
Half become available during the original campaign, with the remainder unlocked through Eclipse Layers.
Housemarque highlights Corruption Melee Enhancement as an example of a new protection.
It allows accumulated corruption to be converted into additional melee damage.
The risk associated with corruption remains, but the player gains a way to turn it into an offensive advantage.
Hostile Regeneration represents a different challenge.
Certain powerful enemies can recover after being stunned by weapon damage, requiring a melee attack to finish them.
These modifiers therefore change player behavior rather than merely adjusting numerical difficulty.
A Golden Crown Rewards Difficult Runs
Progress through Eclipse Layers also brings visual rewards.
After reaching Eclipse Layer 2, Arjun receives a crown and his armor begins glowing gold.
The crown becomes increasingly elaborate as players accept additional challenges.

It is a visible representation of how demanding the chosen modifiers have become.
Zenith also expands Photo Mode, allowing players to adjust Arjun's facial expressions and toggle certain weapon effects on his body.
Twelve New Visions Expand Carcosa's Story
Zenith offers more than competitive challenges.
The New Game+ includes twelve narrative Visions associated with an ancient king.
These discoveries appear as murals and messages carved into stone.
Some story information becomes visible only after players reach the required crown level.

These additions extend the mythology of Carcosa without constituting an entirely new campaign.
They reward players willing to explore the more demanding layers of the game.
Slow Game Speed Makes Projectiles Easier to Read
Accessibility is the other major focus of Zenith.
Housemarque does not want to remove the large numbers of projectiles that define its combat.
Instead, Slow Game Speed allows players to reduce the pace of the entire game, including Arjun, enemies and incoming attacks.
That gives players additional time to identify threats and decide whether to jump, dodge, block or parry.
The amount of slowdown can be adjusted.
Players can enable it manually or choose automatic activation during combat.
The attacks and their patterns remain in place.
The aim is to provide more time to understand the challenge, not remove the core mechanics that make SAROS distinctive.
Auto-Fire and Motion Aiming Add More Control Options
The new Weapon Auto-fire option activates shooting automatically while an enemy is targeted.
It can apply to the main weapon, the power weapon or both.
The feature reduces the need to hold a trigger during extended combat.
Perfect reloads still require a correctly timed button press.
Housemarque has deliberately preserved that element of player skill.
Zenith also introduces motion-sensor aiming through the DualSense controller.
High Contrast Display can highlight the player and enemies through distinctive colors and outlines.
Together with existing control remapping, these settings allow more players to customize the experience around their needs.
Six New Trophies and Balance Changes
Six additional PlayStation trophies are included.
They are associated with Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers and selected Carcosan Modifiers.
The patch also adjusts artifacts, including corruption effects, drop conditions and progression-related attributes.
Several modifiers receive balance changes, while Overlord Rush gains adjustments to Overdrive and time bonuses.
The full update therefore extends beyond the two modes highlighted in its promotional trailer.
A Strong Reason to Return to Carcosa
Zenith develops SAROS in two directions that might initially seem contradictory.
Overlord Rush and Eclipse Layers offer more demanding challenges for experienced players.
Slowdown, auto-fire and enhanced visibility make the game easier to approach for those who struggle with its speed.
The update is free and available on PS5 from October 19.
Its long-term effect on player engagement remains to be seen, but Housemarque has addressed two recognizable needs: giving veterans more to master and allowing newcomers to find a more comfortable way into Carcosa's intense combat.
