Pikmin 4 on Switch 2 gets 72 Dandori challenges, voice commands and a free demo ahead of launch
The Pikmin are heading back to school. Ahead of the November 12, 2026 launch of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, Nintendo has revealed more details about its new features and announced a free demo for November 2. The expanded edition includes 72 gradually released challenges, weekly exams, voice commands for Oatchi and Dandori Battles supported by GameShare.
Oatchi already knows how to carry treasure, break through obstacles and rescue Pikmin from all manner of trouble. On Nintendo Switch 2, the loyal space dog is learning a new trick: listening to his owner's voice.
Nintendo used its Pikmin Day Direct presentation over the October 31 weekend to showcase Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy. A new official article published on November 2 followed the broadcast and confirmed a free demo.
The complete game is still scheduled for November 12, 2026. That release date was announced in September, so the latest news is not the existence of the Switch 2 version itself. Instead, Nintendo is providing a closer look at its features, ongoing challenges and trial content.
The biggest addition is Dandori Academy, a mode built around one of Pikmin's central ideas: the ability to organize a tiny workforce efficiently before giving it orders.
Dandori Academy includes 72 stages released over time
In the Pikmin series, Dandori refers to planning and carrying out tasks efficiently. Having a large group of Pikmin is not enough. Success depends on choosing the right creatures, dividing responsibilities and avoiding unnecessary movement.
Dandori Academy turns that philosophy into a dedicated game mode. Each challenge asks players to collect treasures from a defined stage as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The mode includes three difficulty settings, with easier stages designed to welcome beginners. Players can therefore learn the fundamentals before attempting more demanding performances.
Nintendo has announced 72 stages in total. That might sound like a substantial collection available immediately at launch, but the company has chosen a different approach.
Six new stages will be released each month, meaning the full collection will not be accessible on November 12.
Dandori Academy is designed to expand gradually after release, offering returning players new situations in which to refine their strategies.
This monthly structure is an important part of the mode. Rather than presenting every challenge at once, Nintendo is establishing an ongoing schedule around improving efficiency and mastering stages.
Weekly exams take place from Friday to Sunday
Dandori Academy also includes formal exams that operate differently from ordinary practice.
Exams will be held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Players can rehearse a stage as often as they like, but they will receive only one official exam attempt per week.
That limitation changes how the mode is approached. Completing a challenge is one objective, but building a sufficiently reliable strategy to perform well when the attempt matters is another.
Every second can make a difference. Assigning separate groups of Pikmin to collect multiple objects, choosing the right moment to use Oatchi and avoiding unnecessary detours can all influence the final result.
Nintendo will award medals based on exam performance. These can be exchanged for rewards including user icons.

Leaderboards will also allow players to compare scores, adding a competitive element for those who enjoy optimization.
It remains to be seen how the different difficulty levels will balance accessibility and rewards. Based on the announced structure, Nintendo is attempting to make the mode approachable for newcomers while retaining tougher objectives for experienced players.
Oatchi understands nine voice commands
Another major addition concerns the expedition's dependable companion.
Oatchi can now receive voice commands through the Nintendo Switch 2 system's built-in microphone.
Nintendo has confirmed nine different commands. Players can ask the dog to gather Pikmin or transport treasures, among other actions.
They can also praise Oatchi for doing a good job. Nintendo has emphasized that particular detail, suggesting that good manners remain important even during a timed treasure-collecting challenge.

The feature provides an additional way of interacting with Oatchi, taking advantage of the Switch 2 microphone rather than requiring a separate voice accessory.
However, its capabilities should not be exaggerated.
Nintendo describes nine recognized commands, not a free-form conversation system.
There is no announcement of generative artificial intelligence allowing players to speak spontaneously with Oatchi. The system is based on predefined instructions linked to specific actions.
The reliability of voice recognition and its behavior across supported languages will need to be assessed with the final release.
GameShare makes Dandori Battles easier to play with friends
Dandori Battles are also receiving an upgrade on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo has confirmed GameShare support, allowing compatible multiplayer activities to be shared with another player.
Two participants can compete in Dandori Battles, including through local play. Online options are also supported through GameChat.
Under supported GameShare configurations, the invited player does not need to own a separate copy of the game to participate in the shared activity.
This is different from ordinary online multiplayer.
GameShare does not mean every part of Pikmin 4 becomes freely available to people who do not own the software.
The sharing system applies to compatible activities and remains subject to Nintendo's conditions.
Some online features require a Nintendo Account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Nevertheless, GameShare could make Dandori Battles more convenient by reducing the need for both friends to purchase the game independently.
Enhanced graphics support up to 4K in TV mode
The Switch 2 edition also brings visual improvements.
Nintendo has announced enhanced resolutions in both handheld and television modes.
When connected to a compatible television, the game supports resolutions up to 4K.
That should make environmental details easier to appreciate, from the textures of familiar household objects to the plants and tiny creatures inhabiting Pikmin's miniature world.

The wording matters, however.
The 4K figure applies to TV mode and represents a maximum supported resolution. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee of 4K rendering in handheld mode.
Nintendo has also not provided a complete performance breakdown establishing exact frame rates across every display configuration.
Independent testing of the final release will therefore be needed to evaluate the technical improvements.
The enhancement is particularly relevant to Pikmin 4's art direction, which transforms everyday objects and garden spaces into enormous environments viewed from a tiny perspective.
Sharper images may reinforce that sense of scale without requiring an entirely redesigned adventure.
A free demo was announced for November 2
Nintendo has accompanied the new presentation with a trial version.
A free demo of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy was announced for November 2, 2026, through Nintendo eShop.
It includes the opening Sun-Speckled Terrace area from the main story and two Dandori Academy stages.
The trial offers an introduction to directing Pikmin, exploring the environment and taking on the planning challenges that form the centerpiece of the new edition.
It should not be confused with early access to the complete game.
The two Academy challenges are only a preview of the content planned for the full release.
For prospective buyers, the demo provides a way to experience the gameplay before deciding whether to purchase the full game or an upgrade.
Original Pikmin 4 owners can purchase an upgrade
Pikmin 4 originally launched on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023.
Players who already own that edition will not necessarily need to purchase the complete game again to access the Switch 2 features.
Nintendo is offering a paid Upgrade Pack that adds the new content and enhancements to an existing copy.
German coverage by Nintendo Connect reports a price of €9.99. Regional pricing should be checked through the relevant Nintendo eShop before purchase.
New players can instead purchase Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, which includes the original adventure and the new features.
Nintendo also confirms that the physical or virtual game card for the Switch 2 edition can provide access to the original Nintendo Switch version when used on the older system, without the Switch 2-exclusive additions.
That distinction is important because this is an enhanced edition of an existing title, not an entirely separate sequel.
November 1 becomes the official Pikmin Day
The upgraded game is part of a broader celebration of the franchise.
Shigeru Miyamoto announced that November 1 is now officially recognized as Pikmin Day.
The choice of date follows a characteristically playful piece of Nintendo logic: the three ones in 11.1 resemble the original red, blue and yellow Pikmin standing together.
The special presentation also covered Pikmin Bloom, the smartphone application focused on walking and collecting.
A winter update will introduce Secret Caves and new treasure-hunting activities.
Nintendo also plans interactions between Pikmin Bloom and Dandori Academy, allowing players to earn selected rewards in the mobile application.
The event additionally highlighted Hello! Pikmin, a series of animated shorts featuring the franchise's small creatures.
Together, these announcements suggest that Nintendo intends Pikmin Day to become an ongoing celebration rather than a single promotional occasion.
The new edition arrives November 12
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy is scheduled to launch November 12, 2026.
It preserves the original adventure while introducing features designed to build on the game's existing strengths.
Dandori Academy uses monthly challenges and weekly exams to reward planning and practice. Voice commands add another way to work with Oatchi, while GameShare makes it easier to invite friends into competitive battles.
Enhanced graphics and a free demo complete the announced package.
This is not Pikmin 5 or a newly developed story campaign. It is an expanded edition of the 2023 game, with its most significant original content focused on Dandori challenges.
Whether regular exams will keep experienced players returning every week remains to be seen.
For newcomers, the proposition is straightforward: discover one of Nintendo's most unusual strategy adventures, now with a space dog that can understand when you tell him to get to work.
