Helldivers 2 unleashes poisonous Noxious Terminids as bug caves spread across the galaxy

Arrowhead Game Studios has introduced a new Terminid strain to Helldivers 2. Available from November 3, 2026, the Noxious Scavenger and Noxious Spewer bring poisonous bites, movement-restricting webs and a two-stage poison status effect. Bug caves can also appear across a wider range of planets and environments.

The Terminids have acquired a new weapon against Super Earth's soldiers: poison. Arrowhead Game Studios announced the Noxious strain on November 3, adding two enemy variants built around fast attacks, dangerous status effects and, in one case, sticky webs that can prevent players from escaping.

The underground battlefield is changing at the same time. Terminid cave networks are no longer restricted to a small collection of worlds. They now have a chance to appear across additional biomes, including scorching deserts and frozen tundras.

These changes create an obvious problem for Helldiver squads. The new enemies are especially threatening at close range, precisely where the expanded cave networks force players to fight.

Small enemies with a dangerous bite

The Noxious Scavenger may look familiar to anyone who has fought ordinary Scavengers. Its behavior, however, is considerably more aggressive.

Arrowhead describes the variant as noticeably faster than its regular counterpart. It can close the distance quickly, deliver a poisonous bite and attack again almost immediately. A player occupied with a larger enemy may have very little time to respond.

The creature is not particularly durable. Shotguns, flamethrowers and grenades are among the weapons Arrowhead recommends for dealing with groups of Noxious Scavengers. High-volume damage is more useful than spending too much time lining up precise shots.

Its ability to inflict poison makes the Scavenger more dangerous than its size suggests. Even relatively minor encounters can consume healing resources, especially when several creatures attack the same player.

The Noxious Spewer adds webs to the fight

The Noxious Spewer is a much larger threat, combining unexpected movement speed with poisonous melee attacks and a ranged web ability.

Its Web Spit can hit Helldivers at medium range and prevent them from sprinting. The Spewer can then approach its immobilized target and attempt a powerful bite. Arrowhead says its venom is more potent than that carried by the Noxious Scavenger.

There is a clear weak point, although attacking it introduces another hazard. The Spewer's head has medium armor, while its web-filled abdomen is completely unarmored.

Destroying that abdomen triggers a Web Explosion, trapping nearby Helldivers and Terminids in sticky material. This creates an unusual tactical trade-off: players can exploit the monster's weakness but must avoid getting caught in the resulting blast.

Squad positioning becomes especially important in confined areas. A player firing on the Spewer at close range may disable the creature while accidentally creating a new problem for nearby teammates.

Poison now has two distinct stages

The Noxious strain introduces a dedicated poison indicator on the HUD. Players can monitor the severity of their condition, which is divided into two stages.

- Light poisoning: vision begins to haze and health gradually decreases. - Heavy poisoning: damage over time increases, visibility becomes worse and sprinting is disabled.

Stims can cure poisoning, making healing supplies particularly valuable when fighting the new enemies.

The mechanic adds another consideration to cooperative play. Keeping a stim available may help a teammate survive a difficult encounter, especially when they are trapped by webs or unable to sprint away from an advancing group.

Repeated Scavenger bites and the Spewer's movement-restricting attacks can also reinforce each other. Once a soldier loses mobility, the surrounding Terminids have more opportunities to land additional hits.

Terminid caves expand into new environments

Arrowhead is extending underground Terminid encounters across more of the Galactic Map. Cave networks previously appeared on a limited number of worlds, but they now have a chance to spawn in a greater variety of biomes.

The announcement specifically mentions desert and tundra environments. It does not establish that caves will be present in every mission or on every planet at all times.

Inside the tunnels, visibility is limited and corners obscure incoming enemies. Fast-moving Terminids can close the gap before players have much warning, creating difficult conditions for squads relying on long sightlines or distant support.

Arrowhead recommends close-range weapons, maintaining squad cohesion and keeping spare stims available. Those suggestions become more important when encounters involve both poison and movement-restricting webs.

The combination could make underground missions particularly challenging. Tight spaces offer fewer escape routes, while the new enemies punish players who fail to maintain distance or manage their medical supplies.

What Arrowhead has confirmed so far

The November 3 announcement focuses on the Noxious Scavenger, Noxious Spewer, their poison mechanics and the wider distribution of Terminid caves. It does not announce a new Warbond, additional weapons or a complete progression overhaul.

Arrowhead has also not specified an exact duration for the Noxious strain's presence across the Galactic War. The studio presented these enemy and environment changes as available from November 3.

For returning Helldivers, the practical adjustment is straightforward. Expect faster poisonous enemies, watch for the Spewer's web attacks and be more cautious when entering Terminid tunnels. A stim reserved for emergencies may now determine whether a squad can escape an encounter at all.
