Saros: Zenith lets players slow the bullet hell down while making its hardest challenges even tougher
Saros received its free Zenith update on October 19, expanding both ends of the game's difficulty spectrum. New players can adjust the speed of combat, enable automatic firing and use motion controls, while experienced players gain a challenging New Game+ system and competitive boss rush leaderboards.
Housemarque has found an interesting way to make a difficult shooter more approachable: keep every dangerous projectile on the screen, but give players longer to react to it.
That is the thinking behind Slow Game Speed, one of the major additions in Saros: Zenith. Rather than simplifying enemy attack patterns, the new setting adjusts the pace of the entire simulation. Movement, enemies and incoming projectiles all slow down together.
The update, released free of charge to Saros owners on October 19, also gives those who have already mastered Carcosa substantially more to do.
Accessibility without removing the mechanics
Slow Game Speed can be activated manually or configured to engage automatically during combat. Players can adjust the amount of slowdown, allowing them to respond to projectile patterns at a pace that works for them.
Weapon Auto-fire takes a similarly targeted approach. When the player aims at a hostile, the selected weapon can fire automatically. This reduces the need to hold a trigger continuously, but it does not automate perfect reloads, which still require precisely timed input.
Motion Sensor Aiming adds another control option for the DualSense controller. Together with existing button remapping, these settings provide more flexibility without altering the fundamental structure of the combat system.
Twenty modifiers and a New Game+ built around choice
Eclipse Layers becomes available after completing the main adventure. Each new layer requires a certain threshold of challenge modifiers, although players can decide which trials to accept in order to reach it.
Zenith adds ten Protection Modifiers and ten Trial Modifiers. The first group makes combat more forgiving; the second increases its demands. Half of the additions can be accessed during the original playthrough, with the others becoming available in Eclipse Layers.

Corruption Melee Enhancement turns accumulated corruption into additional melee damage, creating an incentive to approach enemies even after suffering a dangerous status effect. Hostile Regeneration gives larger enemies the ability to recover unless the player finishes them with a melee strike after stunning them.
These combinations do more than modify raw damage numbers. They can change positioning, timing and weapon priorities. A defensive build may encourage deliberate risk-taking, while a difficult trial can force a normally cautious player into close-range combat.
The new Modifier Mastery system records progress earned through defeating enemies while modifiers are active. It provides another progression objective for players experimenting with different combinations.
The golden crown has a purpose
Starting with Eclipse Layer 2, Arjun gains a crown and golden armor. The crown grows more elaborate as the player takes on increasingly demanding modifier combinations.
It is also linked to twelve new collectibles known as Visions of a King. These murals and ancient messages reveal additional fragments of Carcosa's history, with some requiring a sufficiently developed crown to become readable.

This makes the challenge system relevant to exploration and narrative discovery. The hardest configurations are not simply about achieving a higher score or proving mechanical mastery.
Overlord Rush brings back Housemarque's arcade roots
The new boss rush mode is accessed through the Primary Unit in Passage. Players face powerful Overlords from the main campaign in a timed sequence, with online leaderboards tracking their performance.
Incursion and Ascension each feature three Overlords and are designed to be completed in roughly ten minutes. Totality combines all eight Overlords into one continuous challenge.

Leaderboards include filters based on the player's primary weapon, making it possible to compare performances within individual equipment categories. Internet access and a PlayStation account are required for online rankings.
The update also introduces six trophies, additional artifact balancing and new photo mode options.
Housemarque's official patch notes include one practical warning: installing version 02.000.000 ends the current Cycle and returns the player to Passage. Saros: Zenith is available now to all owners on PlayStation 5.
